In the winter of 2008/09 the cost of domestic gas on the wholesale market in Britain soared, leaving consumers to pay even bigger bills.
People where upset and made a song and dance about it but by and large people did nothing.
Perhaps your one of them?
Because of this there have been many articles written about ‘How to cut down on the use of Gas in the Home’. But when you read them all you either have to spend a fortune or have your house colder than you would like.
That’s not for me … and I don’t want to save just a few pounds either.
I want whatever I do to be worthwhile.
And I guess you do too.
So…
Can you really reduce gas your bill and is it worth it?
Who are the best gas suppliers in the UK?
And who are the best gas and electric suppliers on price and service?
It stands to reason that the cheapest suppliers will help you cut gas bills .
But if you’re like me you don’t want cheaper gas only to get a worse service.
Things like :
If you want to query anything there is no email or complaint procedure.
You have to phone to the other side of the world to speak to someone who you can hardly hear or understand.
Your made promises that just do not materialise.
My experience is in the UK so if you know anyone in the UK, just point them to this article.
They will be glad that you did.
First it is a good idea to switch if you never have done so before – or it’s been awhile.
It’s easy and simple.
Growing numbers of customers are switching suppliers for cheaper deals on their gas (which is good) but the risk is that the new supplier will raise prices, too. After a week or a month.
Many have been disappointed when in spite of changing they end up paying the same,
You cannot very easily tell which supplier is cheapest by doing a search online.
Sometimes the catch is in order to get the discounts, you have to agree to a lock-in clause. So when the cost of gas increases and you want to switch away from them in the future, you’re charged a fee.
Many people regret having moved to a cheaper deal only to find when it ends; they have been dumped on to expensive standard tariffs.
You might find the cheapest on the day you search, only for it to be the most expensive the day, week or month after you’ve switched to them.
Switching sites that allow you to compare energy suppliers are useful but sometimes they don’t offer a fair comparison.
For example they may not point you to the cheapest because that company doesn’t pay them commission.
Then around every three to six months the gas companies have a round of price changes and you find that your paying more than you did before you visited the switching site!
Also you don’t just want the cheapest price on the day but want good ongoing customer service.
You should choose a supplier that ranks highly in the many customer satisfaction surveys.
British Gas for example does poorly in these surveys and is not consistently cheapest. The press comments on British Gas range from people being hounded for years for wrongly worked out bills to messing up 45,000 direct debits.
Not much wonder they get the wooden spoon award, suffer fines and see record amounts of customers leaving them.
Sadly, many leave just to move to another big supplier because someone knocked on their door or they were stopped in the supermarket. In time lots of these people who have switched end up disastisfied by high prices and or poor service just like before.
In the UK the ‘Big Six’ suppliers – British Gas, Powergen, Npower, Scottish Power, EDF Energy, Scottish and Southern Energy dominate the market.
But newer smarter suppliers can often offer better deals.
For example the company I’m with offers a unique ‘Triple Value’ Guarantee.
Which is:
1) Always cheaper than British Gas.
2) Electric always cheaper than your regional electricity supplier.
3) Prices will always remain competitive compared with the cheapest standard rate available from the ‘Big 6’.
Every month they compare and if necessary adjust the prices down. That’s right down!
There is also no minimum contract term. So if I find them uncompetitive I can easily move to another supplier.
And so can you.
As for customer service they win awards and a recent survey found a whopping 94% of customers would recommend them to family and friends.
There are other benefits as well as saving on your gas bills. Just click the Link to find out more.
You’d br crazy not to switch … after all why pay more than you have too for a better service.
